ID8 Sucess

Young people from all over Tynedale have been celebrating the success of ID8, a project helping young people bring their enterprising ideas to life. The young entrepreneurs had all received grants from the ID8 panel of local young Tynedale business people, to establish and grow their businesses.

Young people from Allendale, Bellingham, Prudhoe, Haltwhistle, and Hexham and many smaller villages have all been involved in ID8 projects, which have helped to develop their skills in enterprise. Ranging from fledgling community projects to award winning creative ventures, the ideas go in front of the ‘Dragon’s Den’ style ID8 panel, which is the only one of its kind in Britain.

ID8 funding has supported everything from a film company buying a better projector, a micro brewery to develop new equipment, a web designer to buy a laptop and software, and a frisbee coach to help gain more qualifications.

Miles Templeman, director of the Institute of Directors said “Celebrating the spirit of enterprise and innovation in UK is essential. The wealth of creative entrepreneurial ideas from young people…is a positive indication that the next generation has the motivation to influence and create change through enterprise.”

Leader of Tynedale Council, Councillor Harold Forster, said: “We have provided funding for ID8 and we're delighted to see this celebration of the enterprising spirit of young people in Tynedale. This funding and support helps young entrepreneurs to develop their ideas, get their ideas off the ground, and ultimately realise their potential.

“These young people have shown they have strong minds, a flair for leadership, and belief in themselves. The ideas and businesses developed by them are a fantastic advert for the enterprising culture of Tynedale and show they have a bright future In its people the UK and Tynedale has a natural resource that will never run out.”
